There was a gap in the weather, over New Year, and we took advantage. Rob had booked us overnight at the Claramount Inn and Spa (pictured) in Picton, Prince Edward County, 3 hours north-east of us, for a romantic getaway – but with the ice-storm, snowfalls, and her bout of pneumonia, not to mention the work piling up for both of us, we seriously considered cancelling. But then we said, no-one ever said on their death-bed, I wish I’d spent more time at the office – the work will be there, whether we go or not, we need some time together after a hectic year, and with me about to go to South Africa… well, anyway, we decided to go, regardless: and we’re glad that we did.
Prince Edward County, under the snow, was gorgeous, picture-postcard towns and villages, white-clad hills and fields, and as long as we were in the car, who cared about the nasty weather? In any case, we had the Inn to look forward to, and dinner, and a deep soft bed to sleep in.
And dreams of a summer return, when the weather is warm and the wine is glinting in the glass, to cling to.
Thank you. As I can only travel vicariously for the next five months, these wonderful images remind me that the wait will be worth all of this.
Is that Anne of Green Gables country? Sounds lovely, pleased to hear that Rob was well enough to go away. Where we are has been struggling to get above 12deg C and howling gales but today we woke to a gorgeous sunny day, almost windless and we are leaving…
