Canada, under the Harper government, has seen a steady erosion of its credibility and reputation on the international stage, as a force for peace and development – to the extent that even a former Conservative Prime Minister has come out in open criticism. The closure of the North-South Institute is just another nail in the coffin: and another indication, if one were needed, of this government’s limited vision and narrow, ideological agenda. Of course, in the grander scheme of things, who cares if the Canadian government is all conservative sound and fury? It doesn’t matter, and no-one listens, anyway. It’s not as if words will be backed up by actions.
Except in this kind of small-beer, low-ball, mean-spirited kind of way.
